Welcome

Our Mission

The mission of Literacy Volunteers of Greater Sanford is supporting the literacy needs of adults, especially those reading below the ninth reading level, with free, confidential, one-on-one tutoring and small group instruction by trained adult volunteers.  Our approach is student-centered so that literacy goals match life goals related to the family, employment and citizenship.

Whether your goal is to help a child with homework, read the label on a prescription bottle, work toward getting your GED, gain better skills for a new job, or learn the basics of using a computer, we can help you.

We were founded in 1986 by local community members.  As we celebrate our twenty-fifth anniversary in 2011, we are strongly committed to helping individuals improve their literacy skills, adapt to a changing world, and change their lives for the better.
